Sunrise in Himalayas
I had been to Sikkim in June'2004 and here it goes what I had experienced then....
***************
I wish I had with me the best camera in the world for capturing the unfolding of sunrise drama in the Himalayas.
Imagine...3:00 AM at dawn you come out of the Dzongri trek hut to find yourself completely drenched in the full moon light. You stare at the moon, the spotless sky and you are lost. A gentle slash of the cool wind wakes you up and you realise you have to reach the Dzongri top ASAP before sunrise. (The reason you know...from Dzongri camp one cannot see Khanchendzonga [Kanchanganga - world's third highest peak] or its surrounding peaks directly. One has to climb upto the Dzongri top to get the mesmerizing view.)
You wake up the poor fast asleep Porter to guide you to the top. As you climb up the ridge, shimmering white peaks on either side welcome you. The left side peaks are crowned by a white round shining ball and the right side ones have proudly tucked in Venus (which never looked so bright as it did that night). You keep climbing...at times taking a brief halt to feel and emboss the event in your mind. You are now so very anxious to have the glimpse of the 'Hero' (guessed right...Khanchendzonga).
You finally reach the top and there he is....the 'Hero'...away...dwelling happily amongst his younger siblings...like a hermit...still and calm. Unknowingly, a smile paints your face and sinks into your soul....you feel very peaceful and close your eyes. An echo from far off taps you..."Welcome home dear..."....Oops...you open your eyes.
The porter says he wishes to go back and so retreats. Alone....you realise...you never have felt so safe before. With the wind playing a gentle tune and sound loosing it's resonance...you get atuned to the surroundings.
After a while the moon vanishes behind the peaks and to compensate his disappearance....a huge carpet of twinkling stars cover every nook and corner of the sky and you just cannot resist having a word with them.
At fewer times you are now disturbed by fellow trekkers who request you to come to an adjacent top, which you politely refuse. Even though the adjacent top is a bit more close to the peaks than the one you are presently on...you know that one will eventually get crowded.
After a while the dense carpet of stars begin to fade...acting as a harbinger to morning glory. The dark horizon now holds a reddish-orange flare to be blasted any moment form now. Oh...look...look...that reddish tinge on the peak of Khanchendzonga. He has the honour of receiving the first rays of the sun than any of his surrounding siblings. Your heart throbs heavily. The 'Sponge' in you struggles to absorb every frame of it in nanoseconds. Within no time the 'Hero' and his adjacent peaks are adorned with golden robes. You feel contented and having experienced this umatched kaleidoscope, you bow your head in honour, leave the site with a heavy heart and a promise to return.....
